DESCRIPTION:Sonare: A Celebration of the Piano (all ages)\nFaculty member Brian Hickman leads an incredible one-day event celebrating all things piano including special workshops\, interactive educational activities\, mini-recitals\, student/faculty recitals\, and a culminating concert. Students may attend all day or join for specific segments. This event is open to the community and free to Center for Musical Arts students and families. \nSchedule:\n1:00 pm: Recital\nFeaturing Center for Musical Arts piano students\nNo registration required \n2:30 pm: Cathleen Kellerman\, “Piano Duet Workshop”\nFor students interested in playing piano duets for the first time \nThis beginner duet workshop will work with young musicians on their first steps in playing duets. We will learn both a simple melody and harmony part on the piano. Then we will pair up to practice putting these two parts together to create a duet. This workshop will have a variety of possible options so that we can pair up students with someone at approximately their skill level as well as choose music that is well suited to each pair. \nCost: Free; registration required\nMaximum of 12 students\nRegister > \n2:30 pm: Susan Olenwine\, “Working in Collaboration with a Pianist”\nFor piano students and instrumentalists interested in playing more confidently in ensemble situations \nInstrumentalists and singers of all abilities may have to work with a pianist at some time during their education and profession. This could be to prepare for an audition\, for a competition\, or a performance. In this workshop we will discuss details regarding selection of a partner\, preparation of music\, musical preparation\, communication\, expectations\, and stage presence. \nPianists who register will work with a musician of their choice (or one will be assigned)\, and instrumentalists and singers will work with Ms. Olenwine. SUMMARY:2022 Suzuki Play-In
DESCRIPTION:The 2022 Suzuki Play-In\, organized by Emily Bowman with area Suzuki string players and teachers\, is a fantastic opportunity to create music and celebrate community. This event welcomes all Suzuki cellists\, violists\, and violinists of all ages. The event will take place just prior to the Colorado Music Festival Family Concert: Tubby the Tuba. \nSunday\, July 3\, 2022\nLocation: the lawn outside of Chautauqua Auditorium\, in the shade near the ticket kiosk\, weather permitting \n\n9:40 am: check-in and tune (please allow for extra time for parking or to take the Hop 2 Chautauqua shuttle)\n10:00-10:40 am: make music!\n11:00 am: Colorado Music Festival Family Concert: Tubby the Tuba\, featuring Really Inventive Stuff. Admission to the concert is FREE for Play-in participants; learn more about the concert > (Concert attendance is not required for Play-In participation.)\n\nBring your instrument and any needed supplies\, including end-pin holders and chairs for cellists\, music stands if needed for harmony\, clips for holding music if using music\, a water bottle\, and your smile. \nThe Festival will provide a t-shirt for the event for the first 100 musicians to sign up (register soon to receive a t-shirt!). Wear comfortable shoes and shorts\, pants\, or skirts — comfortable clothes for playing outside in the summertime. Those with long hair should tie hair back to avoid complications with wind and instruments — and so those watching can see your expressive face! \nA full list of repertoire will be created from your favorite review pieces\, including: \n\nBach Double with cello playing continuo and violists playing orchestral part;\nHunter’s Chorus that cellists\, violists and\, violinists all play in the same key;\nAllegretto in D (violists and cellists\, up one string!);\nand Perpetual Motion\, Allegro\, and folksongs that will be performed in the keys of D major and A major.\n\nThe complete list of repertoire will be sent out to participants ahead of the event so musicians can prepare and review. \nPlease sign up each musician individually. DESCRIPTION:Ensemble WW5 \nWW5 is a contemporary woodwind quintet featuring a flute\, oboe\, clarinet\, saxophone and bassoon. The group plays classic quintet\, but also works to stretch the genre with its technical facility and wide palette of tone colors. \nThe program will feature music not only written for the entire group but also solo and smaller chamber music featuring different members of the group. \nKaty Wherry – flute\nJennifer Stucki – oboe and Center faculty member\nKwami Barnett – clarinet\nJeremy Wendelin – saxophone\nKent Hurd – bassoon \nFollow WW5 on Facebook \nOther information:\nThe concert is free and open to the public.
