Biography

Ian Jickling grew up in Washington, D.C. in an eclectic musical household. In middle school Ian began playing guitar and performing in different varieties of rock, blues, and folk music. His musical curiosity led him to complete a Bachelor of Arts in Ethnomusicology and a Master of Music in Classical Guitar Performance from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music where he also studied early music, composition and electronic music. As a classical guitarist, his repertoire ranges from 16th century vihuela music to 20th century Latin American music to contemporary experimental music.

Ian has been teaching for over a decade and is passionate about helping students of all ages and levels cultivate their love for music. His lessons are tailored to the needs of each individual student, whether they’re hoping to learn the fundamentals of the instrument, develop advanced technical abilities, learn music theory, or just have fun learning their favorite music. It is his hope that he can help foster a sense of appreciation, curiosity, and creativity in all of his students and allow space for their passions and interests to guide the direction of their development.
