[Canceled] Faculty & Friends Concert: Mary Jungerman

January 21, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

This event has been canceled.

What do Native American flutes, Australian didgeridoos, the piano, and various clarinets have in common? More than you might think! Faculty members Mary Jungerman (woodwinds), Deborah Schmit-Lobis (piano), and friend Gusty Christensen (didgeridoo) bring it all together. This eclectic evening brings together Classical composers Debussy and Ravel played on traditional Western instruments as well as original music by Deborah Schmit-Lobis. This etheric music leads us into the world of improvisation and brings audiences on a journey between the worlds of Classical and music of a more sacred nature.

The mystical sound of the Native American flute and the Aboriginal didgeridoo are sounds you don’t hear on the average stage. Often used in sacred ritual, the Native flutes add an exquisite touch enhanced by the didgeridoo*, the piano, and the use of voice. These excellent musicians  will expand your palate of sound beyond the ordinary!

*a didgeridoo is an Australian aboriginal wind instrument in the form of a long wooden tube, traditionally made from a hollow branch, which is blown to produce a deep, resonant sound, varied by rhythmic accents of timbre and volume

Mary Jungerman (faculty member): clarinet, Native American flute
Deborah Schmit-Lobis (faculty member): piano
