The Ukulele Social Club, a class at the Center for Musical Arts, has become much more than a class. It is truly a community of friends who come together on Thursday nights to make great music. We had a member of our group, Marilyn Beasley, pass away on April 10, 2015. Marilyn was a special person to us. As her teacher, it was so fun to see how playing the ukulele quickly became a part of who she was. She started the class having never played and before long she was performing and even played for a presentation to her local Chamber of Commerce. Along the way we discovered that Marilyn was a delightful writer of song parodies and she entertained the club on more than a few occasions with her often hilarious songs.
The Ukulele Social Club is donating a ukulele, case, strap and tuner in her memory to the CMA’s Heartstrings musical instrument bank. It is our hope that someone like Marilyn will try out the ukulele and discover the happiness for themselves that it brought to her life.
The Heartstrings Program through the Center for Musical Arts has instruments available to rent for students & families who cannot afford to buy or rent elsewhere. Instruments can be rented for any length of time and rental fees are on a sliding scale.
Thank you Marilyn for the joy that you brought to our group. You will be greatly missed and will always remain in our hearts.
