Colorado Music Festival Chamber Music Intensive

Our 2022 Chamber Music Intensive is designed for serious high school musicians (strings, woodwinds, piano) and provides a unique opportunity to spend a week immersed in chamber music. Participants will have a rare chance to interact with Colorado Music Festival guest musicians Randall Goosby (violin) and Ryan Bancroft (conductor) and attend a Festival Orchestra rehearsal. Each daily session will include coaching by Center faculty and other professional players, as well as chamber rehearsals (ensemble and orchestra) and a daily class on special topics such as performance practice, wellness for musicians, or score study.

Emily Bowman, Program Director
Emily Anne Bowman is an active educator and performer who enjoys developing the skill and joy of music-making with young players! Ms. Bowman teaches strings grades 3-12 at Shining Mountain Waldorf School and teaches viola, violin, and fiddle with Boulder Suzuki Strings.
In addition to her active teaching schedule, Ms. Bowman performs regularly with the Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Colorado. Ms. Bowman also performs with the Seicento Baroque Ensemble, the Free Range String Quartet, and joins folk Americana group The Bowmans whenever she can.
Ms. Bowman received her formal classical training from the New World School of the Arts and the University of Colorado College of Music. Ms. Bowman graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Viola Performance and was the recipient of the Gabor Ormai Viola Award. Ms. Bowman has twice been awarded the Exemplary Private Teacher Award by the American Strings Teachers Colorado chapter. Ms. Bowman has presented at state and national music education conferences. In addition to making music, Ms. Bowman delights in eating and spending time outdoors.
About Guest Artist Randall Goosby
“[Randall] Goosby plays like an angel with nothing to prove,” claims the L.A. Times. The youngest recipient ever to win the Sphinx Concerto Competition and an artist dedicated to the dynamic music of Black composers, violinist Randall Goosby joins the Festival. June 2021 marked the release of Goosby’s debut album for Decca entitled Roots, a celebration of African-American music which explores its evolution from the spiritual through to present-day compositions. Collaborating with pianist Zhu Wang, Goosby has curated an album paying homage to the pioneering artists that paved the way for him and other artists of color.
About Guest Artist Ryan Bancroft
The “energetic yet graceful” Ryan Bancroft (The Guardian) is the first American conductor to be named principal conductor of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. Bancroft has a passion for contemporary music and has performed with Amsterdam’s acclaimed Nieuw Ensemble, assisted Pierre Boulez in a performance of his Sur Incises in Los Angeles, premiered works by Sofia Gubaidulina, John Cage, James Tenney, Anne LeBaron, and has worked closely with improvisers such as Wadada Leo Smith and Charlie Haden. In the 21/22 season, he will make his debut with the Ensemble Intercontemporain in Paris.
