When one family moved to Lafayette, CO more than a decade ago, they were eager to find community and opportunities for their two children. After settling into their new home, they discovered the Center for Musical Arts and a doorway to music that has shaped their family’s journey ever since.

Their son, Aaron*, who began piano lessons in 2022, quickly discovered a love for music that expanded into playing the violin and even joining the choir.

At first, he was shy about performing, but his teachers’ encouragement helped her step into the joy of making music with others. “He learned the sense of accomplishment that comes from practice,” his mother explains. “Through his first audition, he realized that he could do something difficult if he kept at it.”

The experience has gone beyond music. The once-shy child has grown more confident, and the whole family has felt reconnected after the isolating years of the pandemic.

Attending concerts, watching lessons, and celebrating milestones have reminded them of the joy that comes from participating in community. Even their daughter, who once stepped away from music, was inspired to begin vocal lessons at the Center and plans to continue in the fall.

For this family, the Center has been more than a place to learn notes and rhythms — it has been a place of growth, belonging, and joy. As Aaron’s mother reflects, “We felt like members of a community again.”
